Tuna Tartare With Avocado

Tuna tartare is one of my favorite healthy recipes. Full of protein and good fats, it will leave you lean and glowing. For special occasions I'll serve this as a first course, and it pairs perfectly with a bit of bubbly. On its own, this is the perfect dish to fill you up, while keeping you beach ready.

Tuna Tartare With Avocado

1/4 cup red onion, finely diced
1 tsp garlic, minced
2 tsp fresh ginger, minced
1-2 tbsp capers
1 tbsp sesame oil
1 1/2 tsp tamari
1-2 tsp wasabi powder (depending on taste)
1 tbsp black & tan gomasio (or toasted sesame seeds)
6oz. fresh ahi tuna, finely diced
1 ripe avocado, diced

Combine first eight ingredients in a bowl and whisk together. Fold tuna into the mixture. Coat two small ramekins with a gernerous amount of coconut oil or other nonstick spray. Tightly pack tuna mixture into the ramekins and top with avocado. Press down on the avocado to compress the tartare. Top ramekin with an upside down saucer or other small plate, and flip right side up. Store in the refrigerator until ready to serve. Remove ramekin from the top of the tartare to serve.
